          On May 17, the Meizhou Pingyuan New Smart Independent Energy Storage Phase II Project (hereinafter referred to as the “Meizhou Pingyuan Phase II Project”) was successfully connected to the grid. As a key construction project in Guangdong Province and a major application scenario project for new energy storage listed by the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Phase II, together with Phase I, forms a total energy storage capacity of 200MW/400MWh. This milestone marks the upgrade of the core smart energy storage engine in the Meizhou region, injecting new momentum into renewable energy integration and flexible grid regulation in eastern Guangdong, while strongly supporting the achievement of China’s “Dual Carbon” goals.


          The Meizhou Pingyuan Phase II Project was fully engineered, constructed, and will be operated and maintained by Guangdong Zhiguang Integrated Energy Co., Ltd. (“Zhiguang Integrated Energy”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Guangzhou Zhiguang Electric Co., Ltd. (“Zhiguang Electric”). Located in Shizheng Town, Pingyuan County, Meizhou City, adjacent to the Phase I project site, the project has a construction scale of 100MW/200MWh, consistent with Phase I. It continues to adopt Zhiguang Electric’s fully self-developed cascaded high-voltage direct-hanging energy storage technology and is equipped with four 25MW/50MWh energy storage systems, connected to the existing 220kV booster substation built for Phase I.


          Compared with conventional energy storage solutions, Zhiguang Electric’s cascaded high-voltage direct-hanging energy storage technology overcomes industry bottlenecks such as voltage balancing control and modular intelligent management. The system achieves an overall efficiency of over 90%, representing a 6–10% improvement over traditional solutions. With a more optimized equipment layout, the land footprint for the same capacity is significantly reduced. In addition, the total lifecycle grid-connected electricity output is increased by 23%, demonstrating remarkable technological and economic advantages.


          The Meizhou Pingyuan Phase I and Phase II projects will primarily undertake four core functions: grid frequency regulation, peak shaving, reserve capacity, and renewable energy consumption. Through millisecond-level dynamic response, the projects help stabilize grid frequency fluctuations and suppress intermittent disturbances from renewable energy sources. During peak demand periods, stored electricity is discharged to alleviate pressure on the Meizhou regional transmission and distribution network. During off-peak periods, surplus electricity is stored to improve the local consumption capacity for wind and solar power. The projects also provide emergency backup and black-start support, reinforcing the safety and reliability of the regional power grid.


          The successful grid connection of the Meizhou Pingyuan Phase II Project once again demonstrates Zhiguang Electric’s core competitiveness built upon “independent innovation technology + full-chain industrial collaboration + one-stop service system.” It also highlights Zhiguang Integrated Energy’s capability to implement its “One Body, Two Wings” strategy in large-scale energy storage applications. Zhiguang Integrated Energy will continue to leverage its strengths in engineering construction and O&M services to ensure follow-up commissioning optimization and operational support for the project.
